Informations on how to distingish between VL53L1X and VL53L1CB ranging sensors

Hello,

we utilize both VL53L1X and VL53L1CB for our projects, but from datasheets seems that there is no "easy" way to distingish between them, for example reading registers 0x010F-0x0110 gives the same results between Vl53L1X and VL53L1CB.

Is there any (maybe some undocumented register) way to distinguish between them? We need the distinction to perform different behaviours of our devices accordingly.

there really is no way to tell.

The VL53L1CB is actually a VL53L1X that is guarenteed to run the more demanding code of the L1CB.

Most of the L1X sensors will run the L1CB code - but that is not guarenteed.

Unfortuately, we do the sorting at the end of the production line, and we cannot go back and change them
