Linux Drivers for ST Industrial, Consumer and Automotive Image Sensors - BrightSense and SafeSense

Hi,

I was wondering how things were progressing with writing and possibly mainlining Linux drivers for ST BrightSense and SafeSense Industrial, Consumer and Automotive Image Sensors?

We're working on a new state-of-the-art open source system for conservation of Europe's most endangered dormouse, squirrel and bat species using libcamera and embedded Linux and would like to look at integrating ST image sensors.

Robert - 

I'm not a camera guy, but I know a bunch of them at ST. 

They asked that I tell you that they are aware of your request and they really would like to help. One because it's the right thing to do, and two, because they like little forest creatures too.

For those who don't know what is being asked, Robert wants ST to not only have the drivers on ST's web site but to also put them into the Linux delivery. Some people call this upstreaming. 

And there are a lot of advantages to upstreaming. The main one is that it's easier for the customer. 

Downside is that it takes time. And unfortunately for our customers we are all really busy.

But the request is in the queue. I just cannot promise a schedule.
