Well, the data sheet clearly states in the absolute maximum ratings (table 1):
VOUT (Maximum voltage on the output pin) -0.3V to VIN +0.3V
So if the input voltage drops to zero and the output voltage of 3V is still present at the output due to large capacitors, for example, the max rating is violated without the Schottky diode mentioned.
