Ambiguity in L78M12AB. It is not clear that this part is obsolete or active.

Hi,

When searching "L78M12", there are two results in ST web site. One says that "L78M12AB" is obsolete. The other one says "L78M" is active. For both of them, there are links to datasheets. One datasheet is obsolete and the other one is active. I look for "L78M12ABDT-TR". This part is referenced in both datasheets and I am confused about the state of this part. Any one who can help?

Thank you so much,

As far as I remember, there were a lot of changes and extensions, also the root designation of the component was changed from L78MAB/AC to L78M and delivery forms in tubes were removed, so that a new data sheet including an updated product website became necessary in 2004.

As can be seen on the newer website, the requested L78M12ABDT-TR is still in full production.

    Does it answer your question?

    Regards

    /Peter

Could relate to production plant closure/changes, changing in packaging/test, or movement to only support adjustable parts.
