Question

DC Motor Driver to generate constant Torque

Hello all,

I am writing to inquire about a DC motor driver solution suitable for our application. We are currently using a DCX32L motor rated at 12V and 160W, and our main objective is to achieve constant torque, even during stall conditions. To this end, we are interested in a motor driver that offers software-controlled current limiting, allowing for precise regulation during the stall phase.

Our application requires that the driver actively monitor the motor current and dynamically adjust its output to maintain a stable torque level without risking overcurrent damage. Specifically, we need a solution that integrates current sensing with an interface that permits real-time control via software. This capability is critical to ensuring both performance and the long-term reliability of our system.

Could you please let us know if ST Electronics has developed any DC motor drivers that feature such software-based current limiting Driver?
