How does FIFO decimation work in ISM330DLC?

In FIFO_CTRL3 of ISM330 DLC, you allow the data from both gyro and accelerators to be decimated by the factor in this register. I'm wondering if it is doing an average based on the decimation factor? or is it just pick out one of the dataset within the decimation factor 'window'?

    The decimation doesn't do an average it picks up each X sample, where X is the decimation factor.
