IIS2DH FIFO Startup Noise

When I transition from a powerdown state to any of the ODR's in FIFO mode I get initial values (first 1 or 2 sample sets) in the FIFO buffer that are very erratic. Should there be a period of time after transitioning out of a powerdown mode before the FIFO is enabled?
