Is there a reliable way to detect if the gyro/accelerometer wasoutside the valid measurement range?

I'm using the LSM6DSOX which can measure ±2000dps and ±16g for each axis with the correct settings. I'm wondering if there is a reliable way to detect if the motion of the sensor went beyond those limits during a given time window. Does the sensor reliably return the maximum/minimum 16bit integer value? Is there some other trick?
