A pioneering experiment to understand if "smart" technology can be useful to detect earthquakes, ground fault movements, volcanic events is being experimented on Etna, precisely in the Pernicana Fault, in the northern area of the volcano, thanks to the technology developed by STMicroelectronics and the commitment and expertise of Alessandro Bonforte, researcher at INGV and Rosario Catania, Process engineer at ST.

The project was born from the people involved in this test: they are using a kit with which to make surveys on Etna to perceive the natural radio signal, to feel the "breath" of the earth, when it is not "dirtied" by all anthropic signals. Once the antenna is mounted, it is able to catch even the crackling of distant lightning, like"feeling" the breath of the volcano. Detecting even the slightest movement of the volcano will be the task of the smart sensors just positioned.
