Storage of LSM303DLHC and/or LSM303D at -50C (only rated to -40C)

I have an application where the ST Micro part LSM303DLHC has been specified for a product which has a -50C storage requirement. This ST Micro e-compass is only rated down to -40C for storage (and operation). We are also looking at the LSM303D as the LSM303DLHC is marked as not recommended for new designs.

Can anyone from ST Micro comments on the potential damage to this part at temperatures below -40C?
