Yes, the VL6180X does work under water. The speed of light (SOL) factor through water is showing a factor of 1.33 slower than through air. This factor will need to be adapted to compensate for this slower speed in measurement.

How would you do to make this compensation?

Well I'm trying to measure the water level in the tube with this sensor and I have a lot of error.
