Do I need to add an external latch in order to interface the processor to a 1Mx16 SRAM chip?. I know is a basic question, but it seems that the documentation I'm reading suggests that an external latch is not needed: based on ''Insider's guide'' by Hitex (p.54) or on the reference manual (p.37. ''Mux mode with 16-bit data, 24-bit address'')

Depends on the device you are connecting to.

Most Flash/SRAMS will require the external latches as they do not support multiplexed addressing.

The datasheet of the part you are using will tell you what mode it supports.
