Blacktopped item is Counterfeit IC?

I have bought item for UPSD3354DV40U6 from open market. but, the surface was blacktopped it.  Is that possible to do blacktopped on the surface at factory side?

This honestly seems like the wrong place to be asking this. 

You should contact an ST Sales office in your region, using a phone..

It would surprise me if the factory did it, more likely some vendor programmed and marked them, then scraped them, if not entirely fake.

Does your programmer recognize them as viable parts?

Worth to check this.

Recently opened an USB soundcard, and the main chip was blackened as well. The soundcard works fine. IMHO a weak attempt of secrecy by obscurity.
