I am looking at the alternatives for ST7F tools for C compiler and debug. I have a package from Cosmic. Are the any other choices? I see Metrowerks listed in web pages at Softecmicro. But I can't find much more info than this.

Are these the only two choices? - thanks, Mike

    Hi Mike,

I've never heard of any other C-Compiler for ST7 than Cosmic and Metrowerks.

I use the Metrowerks and the STVD7 (visual develop) from STMicro and I am comfortable with both of them.

You can download the STVD7 from the

    http://mcu.st.com/mcu/modules.php?name=mcu&file=familiesdocs&FAM=15

and use it for free. It is a quite practical tool.

You may use the STVD7 with the Cosmic as well.

I will strongly recommend to use Cosmic in combination with STVD7 toolchain.

    Hi Mike,

I have developed an IP stack on ST7F321 with C-Cosmic and several routine in asm with an EMU3.

This emulator is very good to develop and debug complex application.

I have had lot of problems with cosmic C to integrate C and ASM, especialy for routine parameter and variable declaration.

    Hi.

I use Cosmic since 1 year and I am satisfied. I did not have any big problems due to compiler.

    What problems?

    Just curious.

    Hi Setler,

I've never had any problems with Cosmic using the STVD7 - but I don't have any after I've changed to the Metrowerks C-compiler.

So why do you ''strongly recommend'' to use the Cosmic compiler???

    Regards

I will strongly recommend to use Cosmic in combination with STVD7 toolchain.

    I vote at all !!

I use Cosmic ''C'' compiler from about 4 years without any problem... You can believe to me !

So You can just investigate if You are using it correctly.

The Cosmic support service is very efficient to help You about any problem You have.

    Hy,

I use MW and Cosmic also .

I recommend Cosmic because: Hiware was acquired by Metrowerks, and Metrowerks , now, is part of Freescale ( ex Motorola).

Then I thinks that Metrowerks don't will support new micro, function and support for ST enviroment...
