There is talk of the STR71x Flash Programmer to update the flash via UART.

Will the inbuilt boot code also support flash update via USB ?

Some of our customers use our kit connected to Laptops, which no longer have serial ports fitted, so an update in the field would be a problem via a serial port.

As stated in AN1575, ST7 supports ICP and IAP.

However, ICP is not supported by STR71x, right ?

Therefore, just JTAG programming can be used for mass production to program the blank flash as System Boot Mode is reserved now ?

How can we use RealView ICE for multiple programming in production ?

EEK!! You can't program the flash using the serial port! That's a problem. When did this happen?

This is going to make it difficult/impossible for me to use this micro (especially since the competition supports serial ISP).

I agree - unless you can support some sort of in-system programming with a method other than JTAG, we can't distribute firmware updates to customers via email.

Well, unless this is resolved, everyone will be opting for the Philips LPC21xx (show of hands everyone? ok thats decided!)
