    I've encountered a problem installing Slackware 9.0 from CD-ROM.

Our target board is the ATLASISABD Eval board with 90Mhz STPC Atlas

I can successfully boot from the Slackware 9.0 Bootable Installation CD.

But when running the Setup program, the system hangs when selecting the

    source media.

    - We choose ''Install from a Slackware CD-ROM.''

    - There are two options:

''Scan for the CDROM drive automatically''

    ''Manually select the CD-ROM drive''

In either case, the CDROM drive spins up and the access LED lights, but then

everything hangs (no error message is displayed and the system does not

respond to keyboard input - ALT-CTL-DEL has no effect.

This is very strange, because we BOOTED from the CD!!

I have tried every combination of Primary/Secondary/Master/Slave connection

    but to no avail.

    Any ideas?

Thanks for your help and best regards,

    Tom

This problem have already been reported on this forum (''Linux support: who?''). You can take a look here:

    http://www.stmcu.com/forums-cat-376-6.html

I suppect there is a problem of PCI IRQ routing with the general software BIOS. The Phoenix BIOS can be downloaded from this site.

    Hello Farfalla,

    Thanks for your help!

Actually that was me that reported the other problem (won't boot from CD - Error loading spec file) which was fixed by a switch to the Phoenix BIOS.

The unit will now boot from the CD, but now fails during an attempt to install the s/w onto a hard drive, specifically when selecting the SOURCE drive. Mounting the CDROM drive under Slackware Linux seems to hang the system. Odd because we are able to BOOT from the CD. I suspect the boot access method differs from the OS access method.... Possibly an interrupt issue? Seems that the Phoenix BIOS has no control over the IRQs.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks again and best regards,

    Tom
