M95M01-A125 in half duplex mode

Can the M95M01 work in half duplex mode? The Master has a 3 wire SPI interface with one open drain DIO. From the timings it looks like the M95M01 output is in high impedance whenever the master is accessing the bus. When the slave is answering the master should be recessive. This seems to work, so that there will never be a conflict/short condition. Do you agree?
