ST7538Q working on DC line

Hi, I am trying to run a design based on ST7538Q which should work on a DC 15-18V line instead of AC mains. In the docs I didn't find anything mentioned is that possible so I have started with a couple of experiments based on AN1714. So far there is no communication on the line and I started to wonder what is wrong. Of course my searches at Internet didn't gave me any results on top of what I already have got and I hope here will get some extra help.

Does anyone have done something similar at all?
