STEVAL-SMARTAG1 uses USART2_TX for debug (as SWO)

I'm doing something very similar, and using the steval-smartag1 as a jumping off point. I'd like to be able to use the UART as a second SPI device, but I'm concerned that doing that would interfere with the debug interface.

On a related subject, can the UART, in synchronous mode, be used as a 3 wire SPI? It doesn't appear so, but I'd love confirmation.
