How to use ST-Link_CLI from network drive?

Attempting to use the otherwise great ST-Link_CLI.exe on a network drive, the tool fails with the error The elf loader file is not accessible.

STM32 ST-LINK Utility.exe at the same location doesn't suffer from this issue.

Using procmon, I see the correct .stldr file attempted to be opened.

I can work around this issue by mapping a drive letter to the network path.
