STM32F429I-DISC1 powered with external PSU

Hello,

I intend to use this Discovery kit together with a side board of my own.This side board needs to be powered by the Discovery board (to avoid ground problems) and could draw more than 100mA which, if I'm correct, is the current limit through the USB/ST-Link connector.

Having looked at the STM32F429I-DISC1 schematics and documentation, I'm still wondering how and where (which pins) to connect my external DC power supply? Does 5V acceptable or should I limit the output of the PSU to 3.3V?

The "5V" pins can be used to connect an external power supply supplying 5V.

 

You could also supply 3V directly, but supplying 5V may be better to avoid problems with voltage spikes or inrush and such due to long leads.
