Question

License for System View Description (svd) files?

For example, I can go here, and grab the STM32F2 System View Description, which is a zip file containing release notes and two svd files.

However, there is no license on these files, either as a separate file in the zip or embedded in the svd. It would be helpful if STMicro provided a license to go along with these files. For example, can they be changed? Can they be redistributed elsewhere? Etc.. Other manufacturers, like Microchip/Atmel embed the license in the svd as a comment.

It would be nice if a simple free/open license were chosen; ARM, for example, uses Apache 2.0 for its CMSIS files. Microchip/Atmel also use Apache 2.0 for their packs.

    Hi ESale,

    Thank you for your feedbacks.

This is a good question. We are taking this into consideration and we will try to deliver new SVD files for upcoming products along with an appropriate license to clear up the use limitations.

Do not hesitate to share more feedbacks in the future, we always welcome that.
