How can I create a writable readonly rootfs overlay?

How can I create a writable readonly rootfs using meta-readonly-rootfs-overlay layer? I am able to add this layer in yocto build for stm32mp135f-dk but its not working like overlay readonly.

Is this possible to create a writable readonly rootfs?

I know one method by that my rootfs is becoming total readonly but this is not what I want. Kindly help.
