Desoldering the sockets

I'd like to make the board more useful by desoldering the header plugs on the board and replacing them with sockets I can plug wires directly into.

I've tried using braid and my solder sucker but neither is working effectively. Does anyone have any advice for removing these plugs ? Or am I better off using sockets and headers and so on ?

Paul,

Try using a little solder on the connections first, The flux in your solder is often better than the flux on cheap desoldering wicks, also your solder will likely have a lower melting point than the boards. then use your solder puller.

Personally, I'd leave the board along and use female jumpers, such as those made by Schmartboard.

Paul,

Personally, I unsolder the 2x6 male header that I replaced by females on the copper side.

No trouble for it with a little iron and a pump

In this way, the board can be plug over an extension and i can access to all IO pin.
