programming issues in STM8.

Hello,

We had recently purchased ST-LINK/V2 Debugging and programming STM8 and STM32 microcontroller Tool and

also installed ST Visual Programmer software in WINDOWS 7 PC. In our target board we are using STM8L101x3.

we are not able to communicate when we try to read the program. The error msg is captured in the attached doc.

And same process we tried on 2 windows 7 pc’s and 2 working target boards also so can you please help out of this problem.

Hi,

have you checked that the ST-Link USB driver is correctly installed and the tool recognized?

See the attached document

If it is not recognized, reinstall the 32bit or 64bit driver

If it were the ST-LINK/V3 and IF.. you are in SWIM mode

check ALL 4 SWIM wires are connected. & D.U.T is powered...

for the STLink-V3 they NEGLECT TO MENTION..

1. Setting 2 pin headers (JP4 & JP6.. yep o.k its buried half way thru the documentation)

2. AND !!!!!! you HAVE to connect ALL 4 of the SWIM connections AND have your development board under power...

BECAUSE the STLink-V3 board DRAWS ITS POWER for the SWIM interface from the D.U.T, NOT from the USB cable like the Discovery boards...

This SWIM VCC powers the silicon switch U1 on the link board then feeds back to the ARM CPU for sensing ...

THANKS ST for not labeling it (VCC_IN) to make people think it suppliees VCC out....

It took me 2 days to sort this out, not to mention that STVP is garbage, why?

well it cleared the security fuse on the device WITHOUT even asking for confirmation....

JUST BECAUSE my mouse skipped over a menu as it flashed for a split second......

To check if this is a software vs. a hardware issue, you can try with alternative software, such as stm8flash instead of STVP.
