Can STM32MP157C support 1Gbytes DDR3L RAM in 512Mx16 Configuration? For example Micron Part MT41K512M16VRP-107 IT?

Hi,
maybe some users of this forum could answer if they used this particular memory.
notice that there is many designs with a single 4Gbit x16 memories and DDR tuning is not really dependent of the device density, but mostly linked to PCB layout.
Don't worry so much with DDR tuning, we have seen that DDR3L timings are quite robust.
It should work without much issues if AN5122 and AN5168 are followed and using CubeMx DT. Note that an updated version of AN5168 is available which simplified the tuning strategy.
Most customers wanting 1Gbyte prefer to use 2x4Gbits 16-bits memories because there is more second sources devices than for single 8Gbits x16-bits. In the end it makes sometimes 2x4Gbits pricing lower that 1x8Gbits (in some volume quantities).
2x16-bits DDR also offer slightly more performances, especially for 800MHz devices with intensive GPU activity (e.g. Android).
In contrary, using 1x16-bit DDR allows the termination resistors and VTT to be skipped (which most customers do), with gain in cost, area and power.
Regards.
