Must be able to program a STM8S (more info here http://www.st.com/mcu/contentid-130-113-STM8S_DISCOVERY.html) (For our development only) 2. Posted on October 25, 2010 at 22:23I have tried using0UM)884.  If I have the rs2323 disconnected from the PC i get an error.  I connect the rs232 cable it runs, but I don't get anything on my computer monitor. I put a breakpoint after the menu is supposed to be displayed but it doesn't display but i t does go through the routine to display the menu.  It stops on that break point.  I put a breakpoint after the getkey routine and it never getkey. I have found some minomers in UM0884. Is there a trick or some error that I am unaware of?  Or anyone have any suggastions. #i-am-sure-i-will-need-your-helpin-the-future-charles

Posted on August 28, 2010 at 12:18I'd like to make the board more useful by desoldering the header plugs on the board and replacing them with sockets I can plug wires directly into. I've tried using braid and my solder sucker but neither is working effectively. Does anyone have any advice for removing these plugs ? Or am I better off using sockets and headers and so on ?

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 22:16Hello I'm trying to connect LCD display (WH1601A) to the demo board and use firmware SPI module and SPI_SimplexLCD example as base of my code. But I can't see which PINs (ports) I should use to connect LCD display or where I can select MCU port. I found only ChipSelect and Backlight PINs configuration code (in https://my.st.com//public/STe2ecommunities/mcu/Lists/STM8SDiscovery/mono__lcd_8h.html). Could you please help me configure data port of say which port was used in sample program? Thanks Dmitry null

For some reason I am struggling to understand the code that has been written as a worked example, there seems to be way too many header files and source files required just to turn on the RS232 Serial Comms... In the past everytime I wanted to use the serial comms on processors such as the PIC, Motorola, NEC, Atmel the process was fairly simple and straightforward and could be made to work in an hour or so, after some tweaking of the baud rate etc... Do I need to use all the headerfiles and source files to get basic comms up and running or can I directly turn on the Uart 2 directly? Posted on May 12, 2010 at 17:27Dear friends,I'd like to know whether someone has assembled and tested the hyperterminal application example on STM8 discovery demo board, using the ST232 driver IC.I've done that but the hyperterminal doesn't communicate with the STM8 and vice-versa (no messages are sent between them two).I think there could be a mistake in the schematics (PDF 16898 UM0884 page 6/23 Fig. 1). It seems to me that the DB9 pin numer 3 must not be connected with the pins 7 and 8. Thank you very much for any info on that.Stefano Piovan #hyperterminal

Posted on July 03, 2010 at 02:10Just got a Discovery kit, downloaded the sttoolsset.exe. Ran the exe, hit the next button on the wiz, the package starts to unpack. Than an error msg pops up saying the exe is corrupt. Tried several down loads and two systems, one XP, the other Vista, same error on both. Any Ideas?

Posted on July 06, 2010 at 15:53Hello, I'm trying to dim a LED with the touch sensor on the STM8S Discovery board. After a touch the LED begins to dim until it's dark, but it should stop dimming, if I take my finger away again. This action is not recognized. I think the code stays in an infinite loop at the line, which I have marked with the arrow. When is the TSL_GlobalSetting.b.CHANGED-flag set? I cannot find it in the help files. Or must I use another flag? Or is anything else in my code wrong? Or is it impossible to use this flag two times in the ExtraCode_StateMaschine and if this is the case, how can I implement LED dimming with TSL? Posted on June 30, 2010 at 05:59Just to save you some wasted time, I have discouvered a strange STVD behaviour I would like to share with you. I have compiled and run the ADC application (uses timer and A/D).  I managed to do this using both the Cosmic, and Raisonance toolsets.  I have then made a copy, and started to modify the ADC application.  The original application contains a file called main.c.  For some strange reason, STVD would compile each file, but then decide that the main function in main.c cannot be reached, and create its own infinite loop main.c file, which it would call MAIN.C.  Straingely, my main.c would be in the project, but its MAIN.C would seem to be the one used.  Unless I compile the original application ADC, STVD would always refuse to use my main.c.  Of course, my application, and the original ADC seemed to be IDENTICAL.  Finally, to fix what seems to be a STVD bug, I h

Posted on June 30, 2010 at 18:38Dear friends, I've implemented a sort of tiny PC datalogger via RS232 based on the Discovery board and an ST232 serial interface. It is only 2 ADC channels + 4 DIN + 4DOUT. The sampling time is 15 ms but this is because of Windos Vista and not because of STM8 and communication (19200 baud is large enough). To activate the DOUTs, I give a command to the STM8 which is 2 characters long: the first is a mnemonic like the char ''M'' followed by an unsigned int (u8) which is the output whic I want to activate. The transmission from the PC application (VC++ 6.0) to Discovery is made char by char therefore I needed to manage the Discovery data reception using an IRQ handler which I'd like to attach in the following piece of code. Posted on June 23, 2010 at 07:25I have to use floating point functions in my application; sqrt, sin, cos, atan. I have included <math.h>, so the source files compile.  I am using STVD with the Cosmic toolset. How do I tell the environment to link the floating point library? If I do nothing, the linker complains about not finding sqrt, sin, cos, atan. I guess I must use libfs0.sm8.  Please provide step by step instructions on how to get to the dialog where I must type in the name of the library. Thanks. Daniel

Posted on June 03, 2010 at 14:48Hi there, Before I go mad and smash up the STM8s Discovery Board, could someone please help me get some basic code up and running, Grom did manage to get the PWM code to work on the unit after many attempts... All I require is some basic code to set up the Uart2 and transmit and recieve commands to and from hyperterminal, then all I require is to get the ADC to recieve an input from a thermister.... Nothing too complicated, but this is the only processor that I have never been able to get working straight from the box...

Posted on May 24, 2010 at 22:56Apparently (US Sales Office) the 32k ''free'' variation of Cosimic Discovery package expires after one year. As of 5/24/2010, pricing has not been determined. Is there a non-expiring free compiler? I can wish to learn, but not if it's going to cost $1000 after one year. There are other platforms.
