Flash erase takes more than 200ms on spc560p34 micro causing a hardware watchdog reset

We are trying to erase a flash sector during reprogramming by using the flasherase() function provided by st. The flash erase function takes around 220ms causing the hardware watchdog reset. Any inputs?
