    Dear @waclawek.jan , all,

It's been a while since we updated on this topic, but finally I can get back with good news!

The fix of this behavior is now completed and no more white spacing should appear around the code blocks.

Feel free to test it on your end and let me know if you still face it.

I apologize for it taking so long to be fixed and the inconveniences you faced in this time.

    Regards,
    Lina

    Hello @waclawek.jan ,

Thanks for letting me know. I am looking into it why UI is set this way. Will keep you posted once I will have an answer.

I am sorry about the experience.

    BR,
    Lina

This problem gets more and more aggravated if one edits his own posts several times, as each time the post is saved more and more space is added.

    Test

some code, there was no extra newline around it in the initial post

... and the edit added them.

So, this bug report was clearly ignored by Khoros.

When i edit my post, quite a few newlines are introduced before and after my code snippets

That needs a fix ASAP, because its really bad.

Yes, I think Jan and I have reported it before too.

    Nothing in Khoros gets fixed..

Yes, there are still things to be fixed in the community, but I can't let the statement "nothing gets fixed" go unchallenged.

I've also been annoyed by the problem of extra blank lines before and after code blocks, but until the fix comes you can work around it by editing manually after switching to HTML. I've just forgotten exactly how I did it, but I'll be happy to look at it again if necessary.

    Regards

Yes, it's been a gripe for a while. Along with the spurious HTML error report/warning when pasting something into the editor and posting. That seems to self remediate if we're persistent and push to post again.

Usually I catch this as I paste something in, and it's evident it's in a box with odd formatting it brought with it. Ctrl-Z and paste as plain text..

I don't suppose ST is using an open-source solution for this forum....? [he asks, knowing it was futile]

No, they've all been commercial, was Microsoft SharePoint, then Jive, then SalesForce, now Khoros.

I guess one of the selling points being Corporate and "supported" by paid engineering staff rather than a couple of guys around their kitchen table, although I think the latter could be motivated by much smaller sums of money to fix / add things, or get them right the first go around.

Other scenes I participated on frequently had the databases self-immolate, requiring a recovery/rebuild, but they weren't paying Oracle prices. That said they had a lot better grasp of how the BBS and Forum mechanics were supposed to work.

    The issue continues to annoy.

And now, possibly another manifestation of the bug same:

    https://community.st.com/t5/feedback-forum/more-spurious-whitespace-in-posts/m-p/719528

A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked.A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work.

And the SHIFT-SHIFT-EIGHT / GT-GT-EIGHT breaking things, I reported elsewhere, impacts both source code block panes, and primary post texts.

Honestly we don't need to be breaking stuff to support f***ing emoji's !!

If I edit the post, the whitespace does not appear in the editor!

Using the HTML source view, it can be seen:

    AndrewNeil_2-1726148917783.png

Manually removing all those <p>&nbsp;</p> does seem to fix it.

Could this be another manifestation of the same bug which underlies this issue:

    Hi @Andrew Neil

We have been investigating this issue for some time and indeed the <p>&nbsp;</p> in the HTML code seems to add itself in.

It can be "hot-fixed" by adding a <div> (text) </div> between the text. This also applies to code blocks that are facing issues. We are still researching a complete fix, so I cannot give you a time frame at this point.

    Best regards,
    Laurids

After editing the following post, there are newlines added:

    https://community.st.com/t5/stm32-mcus-products/my-micros-function-is-not-glitchfree/td-p/736780

They get added on every edit.
