Replacement for LSM330DLC

I realize there's no footprint-compatible replacement for the LSM330DLC. Is the ISM330DLC a functional replacement? Will our software team have to make changes to our software if we swap from the LSM330DLC to the ISM330DLC? Is there a migration guide for making this change? Is there a different STMicro part that would be a more suitable replacement for the LSM330DLC?

Welcome @mhubert, to the community!

No, despite the similarities in the naming the ISM330DLC is not a functional replacement of the discontinued LSM330DLC.

To your questions:

  • Is the ISM330DLC a functional replacement? similar
  • Will our software team have to make changes to our software if we swap from the LSM330DLC to the ISM330DLC? yes, plus schematic changes
  • Is there a migration guide for making this change? no
  • Is there a different STMicro part that would be a more suitable replacement for the LSM330DLC? no

The ISM330DLC e.g. provides:

  • much smaller package
  • lower accelerometer noise
  • two more gyro ranges
  • better zero-g offset
  • far better angular zero rate level
  • far better drift on zero-g (mg/K) and zero-rate (dps/K)
  • far better sensitivity drift over temp
  • far better gyro sensitivity drift over temp
  • better accelerometer ODR, far better gyro ODR
  • improved power consumption

Hope that helps?

Good luck!
/Peter

Thanks @Peter BENSCH. That's the exact information I was looking for.
