I believe this is a TRIAC based on the circuit it is in, but I cannot find any data on this device nor vendors having it in stock.  It's a TO-220 package, could someone please explain the ST part numbering?  Thanks!

Welcome @JN3451, to the community!

The device in question is a TRIAC BTA08-300BL, which was discontinued a very long time ago and for which I unfortunately no longer have any documentation. The same question was asked here once before, but unfortunately no alternative was mentioned.

Please try to find out with a continuity test or any beeper whether the cooling lug with the hole is electrically connected to the middle of the three legs.
If this is the case, you could try the BTA08-600B as an alternative, but if the cooling fin is insulated, you should try the BTA08-600BW (also insulated, to be found in the same data sheet).

Hope that helps?

Regards
/Peter
