L6599A bootstrap diode

Hi,

What would be the consequence if there is a bootstrap diode used from pin 12 (Vcc) to pin 16 (boot), as used in the old days. I know that this should not be necessary because of the internal bootstrap circuit. So, can both "ways of working" used in parallel?

Exactly this case is discussed in detail in the data sheet of the L6599A, section 7.7. The entire block is relevant for your question, the answer then follows directly under Equation 14.
