RPM measurement

Hi friends,

I need to find the RPM of Ship engine using STM32F407VGT6 microcontroller. But I no idea(Methods) to find the RPM of the ship engine. I saw the browser it shows some methods one method is interesting but i did not that is suitable are not that method is below in bold letters

"Measuring the Rotation speed using STM32 and Timer in Encoder Mode"

if Above  method is suitable for my application(find RPM of ship engine)and which hardware is suitable for my application ?.If any suggestion from your side give some insights about my project.

Sorry, but from someone external to your project, the description of your issue is tough to understand.

From what I understand, you want to measure the speed of a ship engine, but the control of the engine itself is not done by your STM32F407 right? If I guess properly, your question is absolutely not related to Electric BLDC motor control. What kind of motor is your ship motor?
