I need to know the programmability of STSAFE A1100.

I am looking into STSAFE A1100 to implement authentication. I noticed it is referred to as an IC instead of an MCU. Does it mean it is not programmable? Do we have to use it as is?

    As far as I understand it you interact with the device and stash keys inside it. I don't think you get to program code inside it.
