Question

TouchGFX for custom display

HI,

I´ve to design a solution with a custom 5 and 7 inch color displays for a more or less static graphics (just some values and maybe some charts).

Which interface / MCU would you recommend? MIPI-DSI? Would be fine to have a quite small MCU (preferrable no BGA or WLCSP)

Best regards,

Achim

Hello @AWack ,

You can see our portfolio here and select the right MCU depending of your technical needs. I would personally recommend to select an MCU with sufficient internal RAM to store at least 1 full framebuffer (if you don't expect any animation, 1 framebuffer is  enough, you don't really need 2). Also If you want simpler integration, I would recommend using LCD-TFT instead of MIPI-DSI.

Hi Osman,

thanks for your reply! Could you give me an example for the size of the frame buffer?

What´s the reason you would prefer LCD-TFT instead of MIPI-DSI? Is the frame buffer size also applicable for DSI?

Best regards,

Achim

Hi @AWack ,

It depends on your resolution, and the quality of the visuals you want to show. Let's say you have a 320*480px resolution using 16 bit  color depth and 1 full framebuffer , you will need 320x480x16/8 x1307,200 bytes available in internal RAM.

LCD-TFT is just a preference of mine. With TouchGFX, LTDC are supported very easily and it's well documented. But DSI displays can also be used of course.
