ST25 NFC/RFID tags and readers

Hello,I have made a custom RFID reader board design which is similar to the X-NUCLEO-NFC08A1. However, it powers antennas in single ended mode with a cable through a u.fl connection. I am running the example code for the X-NUCLEO-NFC08A1 on this custom reader and it is not working. How would I get it to work? The code seems to be running fine on the arduino IDE however the TX pin is not lighting up at all, suggesting that a reader field is not being generated. I suspect the reason for this is that the (#define ST25R3916_REG_IO_CONF1_single   (1U<<7))  register in the st25r3916_com.h file needs to be changed from differential to single ended however I don't know how to do this. Hello,    I have one ST25R3916B that feeds a few antennas spread out over 23 inches of length, using relays so that only one antenna is connected at a time. The ST25R3916B is located in the middle of the length. Traces are 20mil wide with ground plane cleared out underneath. I'm getting good results on one half of the board but the same antennas on the other half are not reading as well. I'm thinking it's reflections on this line.So what would be the recommended way to terminate the 13.56MHz differential antenna signals on either end?Thanks,Derek

Hi,I am looking for bidirectional mailbox example for the st25dv chip. I have an ANT7 nfc connected to a nucleo with the NFC7 mailbox example and the NFC Tag iOS App. I can read the mailbox stuff send from the Tag to the iOS App. But the other way around is not clear. Neither the GPO pin is toggled accordingly. Do you have an example / demo code available for this. kind regards, C.W.

we are observing weird error during initilization...enclosed the log dump (board2_init_fail_log.txt and ll13_01_board2_success_logs.txt)on Raspberry pi with 2 NFC03A1 boards (SPI3.0 works well, SPI0.0 fails)2 independent binaries are being used with the respective SPI and control gpios.The same board some time works(log enclosed - ll13_01_board2_success_logs.txt) but most of the time we observe Error 36 (ERR_HW_MISMATCH)Observations1. st25r95CheckChipID() fails2. ran this in a loop for 5 times and observed from 2 or 3 iteration, the chip responds with some data3. st25r95Initialize() returns ERR_NONE (st25r95CommandEcho() is ok 0x55 being received)4. st25r95SPIPollRead() returns 0 (indicating IRQ_OUT is going low.)Pls advise

Hello,I was wondering how to edit the analogConfigTbl_NFC08A1.c file in order to change the chip's operation from differential to single ended. I have looked at datasheets and it is very confusing what register-mask-value should be used to enable single ended operation for the antenna.Also, how would I go about removing AAT from the chip's operation. Do I just delete the AAT entries in the analog configuration file? Regards,William

I recently purchased a STEVAL$25R3916BA evaluation kit because I was given to understand that this had a 64-bit DLL available, whereas the older 3911-based kit didn't.However as I have started to write code based on the DLL, I have found it is actually 32-bit only and I would need a separate 64-bit DLL.The 32-bit limitation is affecting a whole bunch of libraries and applications I am building on top of the DLL, all of which now have to be restricted to 32-bit just because of this one DLL. A 64-bit version is really badly needed!Does this exist, and if so, where can I find it? Alternatively, is the DLL source code available so I can rebuild it as 64-bit? 

I have tested ST25DV16KC Type 5 NFC Tags in out products using ST25 NFC mobile application.For automating my testing process using PC based utilities, I am looking for NFC Type 5 card readers which will support your ST25DV16KC IC.Previously I have used Identiv3700F cards which support only Type 3 NFC Tag, now I can't use that because ST25DV16KC is Type 5 NFC Tag. Can you suggest any NFC card reader/writer which have GUI or which I can access for automating my stuff?

The KC chips made breaking changes to some configuration registers, but v2.3.1 of the ST25 Tag Editor has no option for the KC variant, so some configuration registers are read/written incorrectly.

I've downloaded the NFC Tap app and on my Iphone 8 it is not possible to start the FTM Demo because directly when I try to start it the strange overlay appears and then the app crashes and is not usable. It is the newest version.Furthermore, I was not able to download the App from your Homepage. It is a endless loop of logging in and jumping back to the same page. I've tried 3 different browsers (firefox, safari and chrome). All behave the same.

Hi,I'm using NFC reader chip ST25R3916 and the library STSW-ST25R016 on a Nucleo 64 dev board. To get started I compiled the polling example. I want to be able to detect and activate 2 tags, one after the other. In demo_polling.c, I changed discParam.devLimit to 2. After that change,  will it detect that it has  two tags on the reader. It will select the first tag in the device list and print the ID for that tag.what I want to figure it is, once it detects the first tag(NFC V), it should start P2P communication with the second tag, and continue to maintain it, until the first tag says otherwise.Thanks! 

Hello,Just a clarification question. When going through the application note (AN5248) for ST25R95. It mentiosn at one point there is a maximum allowed voltage on RX1 and RX2 which should be below 7V.Where in the datasheet is this specified? Thank you. 

Hi,I'm working with the ST25DV16KC-IE6T3 tag (ISO15693 type 5) and I want to both read and write data to it.I'm looking for a compatible NFC card reader that can connect to the computer via USB port (either desktop PC or laptop.)The use case would be to write an application in LabVIEW that can use this reader to read/write data to the above-mentioned NFC tag in hex format.Maybe someone can help me with the following questions:1 - Can anyone recommend a NFC reader that can communicate with NFC type 5 tags?2 - Can anyone recommend a LabVIEW library for communicating with NFC type 5 tags? Thanks!

I activated the area1 password protection with password 1. I saw that the default password is "0". Is there a way to change the password 1 over the I2C or is it only possible to change it from NFC side?I saw that all RF_PWD witch can be configurated to the areas can be change over RF in secure session. But also the secure password is default "0". So I have to configurate the chip with NFC to work in the mass? Or how can I deal with it over I2C to be configurated default for our use?

I'm trying the ST25DV, ( open drain connection with pullup resistor of 20k ) but I can't get the interrupt to work through the GPO pinThe product code read is 0x51I wrote the register with GPO_EN = 1 and RF_ACTIVITY_EN = 1, RF_WRITE_EN =1, FIELD_CHANGE_EN = 1,after an RF WRITE I see through IT_STS_Dyn that the interrupt has been triggered,but from the GPO pin I never see the interrupt ( I always read the pin at logic high level )What am I missing for it to work ? 

I'm trying to download a software, but a message appears "This software is not available for download". But when I sign out and try to download as a guest I receive a link in my inbox and the download starts. how can I solve this issue to download directly while I'm signed in to ST? 

Hello,i downloaded the source code of the iOS App (STSW-ST25IOS001), but i get tons of error, it's not compilable.Has anyone tried? I wanted to use it as reference for developing.I already made an app with Android and it's working, with far less troubles.Am I missing some steps to make it run?I have already read the pdf about j2objc and bridging but i guess the original source code should already be set. 

HelloI have been trying to develop a GUI App to communicate with STEVAL-25R3916BA to read & write ISO15693 Tag Type-V. So far with reference from similar other questions asked previously on this forum I have been able to connect to EVAL board and at least read UID of the tag. This I was able to achieve thanks to response from @Ulysses HERNIOSUS responses. To achieve this I have used the example application comes with ST25PC-NFC & ST25 SDK. The example project from ST. for C# does not have read/write example, I have tried my best to perform read/write using APIs from ST25R3916DISCOComm DLL, but so far no success, APIs comes back with no error & no data, if there is no error then why no data? I am trying to use iso15693ReadBlock & iso15693WriteBlock from DLL, and I have used ST25PC-NFC to write 0xFF to whole memory of Tag type-V, so I know what I'm reading is okay, as currently API for reading just reads 0 with no error! So I'm not

Is there a .NET SDK for ST25 NFC tags that will let me read and write ISO 15693 Type 5 tags in C#? I have the ST25R3911B-DISCO reader/writer board.The closest I've found so far is a COMMS dll which appears to be taken from the demo app and will not load under 64-bit .NET. I've also seen the Java SDK but that looks like it is using the same DLL under the covers and is again 32-bit only, so I can't use it in my 64-bit app.I would ideally like to be able to use these tags from a modern (.net 8 64-bit) app. Any suggestions appreciated.

We have a custom antenna and reader board setup that uses the ST25R3916 reader chip and I would like to know how to implement the Discovery GUI "Tune Antenna" and "Measure Antenna" commands in my Test Application FW. Specifically, what functions need to be called before and after the st25r3916AatTune() API? I would like to be able to get the tuning results, e.g., AAT A/B, Amplitude, and Phase values.Calling st25r3916AatTune() API by itself doesn't seem to work, e.g., amplitude and phase values returned are zero. I think I'm missing a bunch of steps in order to get this to work correctly.Unfortunately, the HW setup can't be hooked up to the Discovery GUI PC app, hence, the question.Thanks.@tmuhlbauer@device-solutions.com

I'm working on code that uses the Windows DLL that came with the "Discovery kit for the ST25R3916B" and ST25DV04K tags.The tag is hosted within an embedded system, and I'm working on Windows PC software that communicates with the EVAL boards/reader.In the tag data sheet I noticed a section titled "interface arbitration" that seems to imply that the RF and i2c inbterfaces are mutually exclusive. This potentially has some rather interesting implications. Is this something I need to worry about when using the DLL in Windows, or is it all handled correctly by the DLL? Since there is neither source code nor documentation for the DLL I cannot determine this for myself, but I suspect I might be running into some issues when the tag is hosted by a slower device.Regards,Tim long

Hi, I am trying to develop a mobile java application using the ST25R3911B-DISCO and saw that ST offered the ST25SDK to help. When looking deeper into the SDK, I saw that there are some reference implementations using the ST25R3911-DISCO but one of the limitations is that it is only supported in 32-bit configuration. I was wondering why this is as there is a PC GUI that works on Windows 64-bit and if there is a way I can try to edit it to make it compatible with different platforms. 

Hi everyone,I'm new to the NFC field so please bear with me for these beginner questions.We have an IoT device and its main board is the ESP32 board.Previously we connected to a PN532 breakout board to encrypt/write and read from Mifare DESFire EV1 cards. But since the boards do not have RED certification so we are searching for alternative modules at STMicroelectronics.I'm having a look at this board X-NUCLEO-NFC08A1. I see it has the RED certification. But, is it the correct NFC writer/reader that I should use? Because I see in the picture "for evaluation only". If not.. what should we purchase to write/read with NFC smart cards?On the other hand, what is the NFC card that you officially support? I'm checking here for the NFC cards but it looks like these are only the 'chips' of the cards (not the ready-made cards to give out to end-users instantly?)Thank you all in advanced.Lam. 

Hi I am using ST25DV04KC tag in my product. During EN300330 test, there is a very high 2nd harmonic component radiated and exceeds the limit when the NFC reader is placed beside the tag. Anyone encounter this issue before?For Type-5 tag, is it normal to see a high 2nd harmonic component during communication with the reader?Thanks.RgdsDan
