Warning: macOS update to 26.1 breaks Eclipse text selection

Hello,

if you are using macOS and STM32CubeIDE and need it productively you should currently refrain updating your macOS. Due to a bug in Eclipse (https://github.com/eclipse-platform/eclipse.platform.swt/issues/2621) text selection does no more work via dragging your mouse or using shift+arrows.

There is already a fix but STM32CubeIDE does not provide the fix as update as of now.

I already filed a case.

Hello @st_otto

In the meantime, STM32CubeIDE 1.19.0 is not supported on macOS 26.1, according to release note RN0114.

Bug observed in MacOS 26.2 with CubeIDE 2.0.0 as well.

And Eclipse 2025-06 (4.36.0).

To be fair (asking a lot) this is not an ST problem. Both Eclipse and CubeIDE worked properly prior to updating to MacOS 26.2. The people that complain that ST should be better at choosing when to release a system should remember that Apple radically changed how their UI works, ultimately breaking Eclipse and CubeIDE. This is also not the first time that Apple's alterations borked Eclipse and CubeIDE, don't you remember the upside-down splash screen? That was corrected by Eclipse AND Apple subsequently.

So, hang on for a while and fixes will be coming.

BTW, control-space code completion doesn't work too.

It is a really annoying bug. Especially when copying and pasting. You have no clue what has been selected.

I will remove the ide and reinstall since i changed something and it will not start anymore.

I just ran into the same problem after a forced MacOS upgrade.

IDE 2.1.1

MacOS 26.4.1

Apple M4 Pro

I hope a solution is in the works. Rolling back does not seem to be an option.
