Problem stm32H743IIT6 version Y for V

I recently bought an STM32H743IIT6 chip and received the Y version instead of the V version that we always work with in our projects. I'm having some issues with this Y version, especially when trying to read the chip with Cube Programmer. It identifies the chip as the V version, so I'd like to understand if I may have bought a fake chip or if there was a production problem where the chip encapsulation is wrong.

Welcome, @KSilv.2, to the community!

In fact, there are two chip revisions whose differences are so serious that there is even a separate chapter for each in the data sheet of the STM32H743:

  • chapter 6 Electrical characteristics (rev Y)
  • chapter 7 Electrical characteristics (rev V)

The chip revision Y is the older of the two, as can also be read in AN5312, which deals with the migration from rev Y to rev V.

Actually, rev Y should have disappeared from the market long ago, but both remnants and counterfeits are conceivable, so you should fully trust your supplier / distributor.

If you now have this question: special chip revisions typically cannot be ordered.

Does it answer your question?

First of all, thank you for the response.

What I find strange is that the encapsulation is labeled as REV Y and when I read it through Cube, the product ID is correlated with version V. Is there any more specific test or related information to really tell if the chip is counterfeit?

Thank you.

Then how are you sure that this is version Y? Maybe you indeed have version V?

These versions have different values in hardware ID register, so CubeProgrammer and other software knows the version.

If you see "revision Y" in CubeMX or CubeIDE settings, just change it to V.

First of all, thank you for the response.

It's just as I said, in the chip encapsulation it says rev Y, but in the cube programmer it reads as version V.

Thank you for the response.

If you send me the Bulk ID from the label of the packaging directly by PM (not here, as it can be misused!), I will be happy to check if this packaging is an original. It is best to send this Bulk ID as a photo, because it is sometimes misread.
