ST25 NFC/RFID tags and readers

HiI have a new PCB design using the ST25R3918 chip.The application is quite simple: An NFC tag (sticker) identifies a consumable in a machine.The PCB/NFC reads the tag to check simple data.The distance from the NFC coil to the tag is fixed in the machine, 15mm +/- 5mm.In free air, I have a reading distance of appr. 50 mm, very stable. Great! My problem is in the machine:The NFC tag is mounted on the outside of a bag-in-box system.The bag is coated with aluminium. Not good, I know...6 mm cardboard makes a distance to the aluminium bag, so that we have a max reading distance of app 30mm.This is actually OK.BUT: There is a "dead spot" somewhere in the middle of the reading distance.The spot is like 1-2 mm wide. Very little difference can make it work as a charm, or just fail.See below.I don't see this dead gap when the tag is not on the bag, so the problem is close related to the aluminium bag under the tag. Why does this dead spot happen?My theory is that the PCB/GND and the al

I use the ST25DV04KC. I initialize the chip and write to like the eval software the CCFile to Block 0 this works. In this state the chip is CCFile unlocked, the NFC-Tag protocol is selected to Type5, RFMngt_Dyn is in NFC off mode (0x01) and I2C secure session is open. After all this, the function NDEF_DEMO_Write_URI_URL() is called. Same function like the Demo-Eval. But no register is written. On I2C, I receive at write to the EEPROM, NAK.Only the first Block (0) is filled with values.If I restart the microconroller with power ON->OFF->ON, It works. And in EEPROM is the NDEF URL and works with the smartphone.Now also Block (1...+) and more are filled with valuesSomething is there witch is blocking the chip by configuration. Is there something to pay attention to by configuring the chip?

We are currently using Flutter for our NFC App development, and used the 'Flutter_nfc_kit' package for NFC Connection. We have successfully implemented the Android's workflow. The workflow consists of :1) Get UID2) invoke custom command of GetRandomNumber3) Use the GetRandomNumber values to encrypt the password that is going to be entered4) invoke custom command of PresentPassword with the encrypted password5) Retrieve the data from the password-locked memory In Android, it all went well but when we built the iOS version, we encountered some errors. The code that we used for the Android device for the transceive bytes format are exactly the same, but in iOS,it throws an error of : Tag Connection Lost (when I didn't input the IC Mfg. Code) and Stack Error (when I input the IC Mfg. Code). This is the example of the code that we sent for the 'GetRandomNumber' command =>[0x20 (request flags), 0xB4 (OpCode), 0x02 (IC Mfg. The MCU for my project is CY8C4147LQS-S473 from PSOC, so it must be developed on the PSOC IDE. I would like to add the ST25R3920 module now. Is there a firmware library available for me to download.

Hey,I started using the ST25R3916 discovery board and I have this error:a ST-Link is detected instead of an "STM device on DFU mode"I tried using the ST-link utility to make some test but I'm still not able to switch of device mode Now I am only connected with the USB port and the board's screen show the USB mode, only my PC doesn't recognise it correctly.Is there someone who know how to resolve this issue ?Thanks,Antoine, from Kuvee

Hi,This may be a newbie question as I'm very new to RFID tags/readers.I used one of the example codes for ST25R3911B. I am able to read the User ID/NFC ID but it doesn't show the Card Data. I'm not sure what kind of data to expect from the card but one of the requirements that I have is to be able to read the "Card Data".May I know if ST25R3911B is capable of reading the RFID Card Data?Thank you very much for your help.

Hello,   I have a ST25R3916B project that is working fine, largely based around the demo_polling.c application. We use one '3916B and switch between different antennas. Each time we switch obviously the RF characteristics change a little, so I'd like to calibrate the antenna. I found the function st25r3916AatTune() but I don't see any example of how to call it and set the parameters.1. Is there an example application that shows how to do antenna tuning on the '3916B? If not, how do I do it?2. How do I know when this process is done so I can start scanning for tags?3. How can I see the result of the tuning? It would be good to know whether the tuning was 'bad' or 'good'.Thanks,Derek

Hi ST,One of my clients has asked me to design a PCB which will require the ST25R3916 NFC reader IC, and the ST25DV64KC, to share the same antenna, in order to prevent the tag from interfering with the reader.I have thought about using an RF switch, such as the pSemi PE42359, however, I am unsure how this will work with differential antennas such as the antennas used in NFC communication. Additionally, it seems that the dynamic tag IC requires different matching circuits than the reader IC, with the dynamic tag IC listing an internal tuning capacitor of 28.5pF, and the reader mentioning automatic antenna tuning with a variable capacitor.Another thing I was wondering about, is, does the ST25R3916 perform the exact (or better) functions than the ST25DV64KC, when it comes to acting as an NFC tag? Hi, I have a suctom board with st25dv schip and i want to use EH for powering it. By default, EH_MODE is ON_DEMAND and I want to change it to ST25DV_EH_ACTIVE_AFTER_BOOT like as at on the devkit, but after writing using SMARTAG1_NFCTAG_WriteEHMode(SMARTAG1_NFCTAG_INSTANCE, ST25DV_EH_ACTIVE_AFTER_BOOT) command the value of the register doesn't changed. Datasheet says that I must use security mode for writing static config register, but how can I enter to this mode?Thanks

I think there is a power management unit in the circuit but without energy storage such as a capacitor, is that right? If so, I need to add an external capacitor for this purpose. Hi  Supporters:    I used the St25r3911b IC to design NFC Module. Then, the new module could work.    However, the waves at the Antenna side are not well, please check the picture at the end.    I think maybe the matching circuit parameters do not match antenna? Please help me, thanks! 

After the last update the app is not crashing anymore, But how can I write data to it via the App.   All toggles are not clickable. And the code example of the MX_NFC7_Process this function is completely empty. Hello togetherI am working on NDEF and mailbox communication between an Android smartphone and an X-Nucleo-NFC04A1 Eval Board. The Eval Board X-Nucleo-NFC04A1 communicates with a MB1717 STM32C031 board.The embedded part works perfectly, the implementation was quick and easy thanks to the good lib you provide on the embedded page.On the Android smartphone part (Android 14 with Google Pixel 6a) I have implemented your SDK with version ST25SKD-1.10.3 in a small test project. I have the project running with AndroidStudio and Gradle 8.7 without any errors.But. It cannot recognise a single NFC tag. Whatever I try, it is unsuccessful. The function inten.getAction always returns a null. In the attachment I send you the small example project. I have noticed that some deprecated functions are used in your Java class "TagDiscovery.java". Is there a newer version?Could you please check where the error or my misunderstanding lies in the application?Thank you very much.RoM

Hi there!I'm working on a Windows console application which uses ST25R3911DISCOComm DLL to communicate with ST25R3911B-DISCO board to process a ISO 14443A card (ST25R3911DISCOComm DLL is located in ST25R3911B_Discovery_GUI App installation directory).My goal is to send commands with manual parity bits and CRC bytes. Hi, We have a product with ST25R3911B and we failed the EMI pretest, mainly due to 3rd harmonic at 40.6MHz.I suspect that this is because we use polling for RFID tag detection, and the reason we are doing polling is because in wakeup mode the device get "stuck" after some time and not detecting tags but does respond on the SPI.We use the standard example for this application My questions are - 1. Can some one help / suggest for EMI improvement?2. Can some one help with the wakeup issue?  Thank you,Michael

I'm encountering an issue with NFC functionality on iOS, specifically related to reading multiple areas. I have an NFC tag that stores data across three distinct memory areas. Using an Android device, I can effortlessly access all three areas with just one tap. However, when attempting the same on iOS, I receive a message stating, "Read of several areas or capacity limit: not yet managed." I'm curious to know if this limitation is inherent to iOS or if it's a feature that hasn't been implemented in your test app. Thank you in advance for your assistance
