Greeting, this is my first ever post on the forum so i hope the topic can be interesting to others.I was working with the ISM330 gyro, reading the datasheet and i noticed that the gyro rate sensitivity seems to be a bit off. Here is what they mention in the datasheet, when i look at the angular rate sensitivy (let assume we have put a full scale range of 2000 dps) the typical value here is 70 mdps/LSB with the tolerance of +-2%. This value doesnt seem to map all the 16 bit signed integer because if you do the math with 70 mdps/LSB the full scale range is actually 2293 dps not 2000 dps, that's like 14% deviation. I don't really know if its intended like this but it's obviously strange, i have worked on many other gyros previously, let say for example mpu6500 or mpu6050 and they don't seem to have this mismatch issue.I have looked up the issue and found a blog post of a japanese that also experience this frustration with the ISM330 (https://rofumi.net/gyroscope-ism330dhcx-angle/ ).

Hi  I am using ST VD56G3 camera to capture .raw image from NXP IMX8m embedded board. I was able to capture the raw file using the following command. gst-launch-1.0 -e v4l2src device=/dev/video2 ! "video/x-raw, format=NV12, width=1120, height=1360, framerate=30/1" ! filesink location=video01.raw   However, captured images in raw file are overlapping. See the screenshot. There should be only one smoke detector in the image but it shows two smoke detectors. Please advise me.   Kind regards, Mickey    

Good morning. I am trying to evaluate a P-NUCLEO-53L8A1 evaluation kit. I downloaded the software example from your website and unzipped it. I then attached the eval board to a USB port on my laptop (running Win 11). It enumerates as a STLink VCP.     I then added the cup detect binary file to the evaluation board as described in the manual. The file copies into the folder specified in the user manual (also LD1 on the eval board blinks). When the copy process is complete, the folder then momentarily disappears and the re-appears with the file removed. When I then run the Cup Detect executable I get the following error Could you please advise how I can resolve this issue? I also tried running the GUI on two other laptops (one using WIN11, the other WIN10). On both laptops the GUI does not launch. Thank you very much.

I am working with LIS2DW12 configuring the INT1 for the activity/inactivity interrupt. With the below configurations (as provided in the datasheet), 1. Write 50h in CTRL1 // Turn on the accelerometer // ODR = 200 Hz, FS = ±2 g2. Write 42h in WAKE_UP_DUR // Set duration for inactivity detection // Set duration for wake-up detection3. Write 42h in WAKE_UP_THS // Set activity/inactivity threshold // Enable activity/inactivity detection4. Write 20h in CTRL4_INT1_PAD_CTRL // Activity (wake-up) interrupt driven to INT1 pin5. Write 20h in CTRL7 // Enable interruptsAs expected the interrupt is triggered as an when there is an activity (movement).I want the interrupt to be triggered when the activity is prolonged for 5 secs. I tried playing around with the CTRL1 & WAKE_UP_DUR settings. But results are not as expect. Kindly advice.     

We bought the LSM6DSOX and installed into our equipment since 2021, please help to evaluate whether we need calibrate it. Are there any conditions that the sensor must be calibrated? Please show us the detailed steps for calibrating the sensor. Since the output acceleration information is very important for our application, could you 1) give us some reliability data from customer market (especially in Aviation Industry, we called FMEA: Failure Modes and Effects Analysis); 2) show us some basic principles for generating the acceleration data. From spec and application note of LSM6DSOX, we found it can support motion/stationary recognition, please show us more detail information with the reliability of this recognition and how to implement this function during practice. Are there any limitations or key points for installation of this sensor?

Hi, I am trying to confiure my FSM on LSM6DSV320X chip following the instructions from AN6291LSM6DSV320X: finite state machine document. But in the document on page 52 line 18 it says: Write 41h to register 02h // PAGE_SEL = 4. But there is no description about "page 4". I am using an LIS2DH12 sensor with an esp8266 via I2C. It is the only sensor on I2C. I have a process loop that repeats every 200ms. During this loop, it is recording some other pin inputs and analog inputs, and sending the data to another esp8266 via serial. With the LIS sensor commented out, the maximum loop time is 5ms.With the LIS sensor reading active, and reading it every 200ms, the maximum loop time including the LIS reading varies from 10ms-45ms. So the LIS reading is taking between 5-40ms. My question: There is a strange pattern over the span of 1.6 seconds. Consistently the loop time progresses 45-41-36-31-26-21-16-11ms, only to repeat again 45-41-36-31-26-21-16-11ms.What is causing this pattern? Is the sensor itself doing something in this 1.6 second time period?Thanks!

I am attempting to write the platform code for the ULD to work with Zephyr. WrByte, RdByte, and RdMulti are running correctly, but the WrMulti function is throwing two types of errors:<err> i2c_nrfx_twim: Error on I2C line occurred for message 0<err> i2c_nrfx_twim: Error 0x0BAE0001 occurred for message 0. The second error appears to be an issue with NACK, but it seems strange that there is no NACK when writing a single byte (WrByte) and NACK is received when attempting to write more (WrMulti). I'm attaching the platform files in case someone could lend me a hand. Thank you in advance.

Hi all, I am new to STM32 programming. I have been able to write a driver for an ultrasonic distance sensor, flash the board, and measure distance, in Rust. Now, I am trying to get a STM32F401RE to talk to a X-NUCLEO-53L7A1 ToF sensor, connected via Arduino pins. I will eventually program it in Rust, but for the moment I am having trouble getting even the most basic functionality working with the C examples that go with the board. Hello, I have started working with the VL53L5CX ToF sensor, for 3d scanning. I have successfully interfaced the sensor with MCU and am able to read the data from it. I have read the datasheet and um2884 user manual as well which explains the different available features of the sensor. A few things I am still confused about -1. If I want to develop my own firmware for the sensor, I am not able to find the I2C protocol register addressing in the datasheet. I found a library from ST micro for interfacing. How can I make my own library if needed?2. For a 4x4 or 8x8 resolution, what is the size of the smallest block in the grid at a particular distance x (in mm). I am asking about both the size of the whole grid and the size of the smallest block in the gird. This will make me understand what is the least count of the point cloud in my scanning.3. Hello,I'm currently working with the VL53L5CX sensor and I came across the following definition in the header files of the API provided by ST : #define VL53L5CX_STATUS_CRC_CSUM_FAILED ((uint8_t) 3U)However, this constant doesn’t seem to be used anywhere in the API or referenced in error handling functions.I would like to know:What exactly does this constant represent? Is it related to an internal CRC or checksum mechanism?Does the VL53L5CX sensor implement any internal CRC checking ?Are there other ST Time-of-Flight sensors that implement CRC or similar integrity checks in their communication protocols?Thanks in advance for your insights!Best regards,

Hello,I am developing a dynamometer to measure the load placed upon it. To do this, I have designed a spring so that a 1 kg load compresses it by 1 mm. Therefore, I need a sensor capable of detecting the spring's displacement with 1 mm precision.My question is: can I achieve this 1 mm precision by using magnetometer sensor? My idea is to place a magnet on the moving base of the dynamometer and create a calibration curve to correlate the change in the magnetic field with a 1 mm displacement. I need to be able to measure in 5 kg increments, which should correspond to a 1 mm 

Hi,Recently we bought & recived components (MPN LIS2DH12TR) from distributor (Mxxxxx) are over two years old date code, which exceeds the threshold for our internal testing policy.As you know, there's a potential risk of pad oxidation affecting solderability over time.For our validation process, we conduct solderability tests on:Active components that have exceeded 2 years of storage. (Apply to this component) Passive components that have exceeded 5 years of storage.Does STMicroelectronics has any official statement confirming that the shelf life of these LCA leadless pads ? Hi,is there a way to distinguish both mentioned sensors other than by complex optical measurements (they have different FOVs)? We have built devices with both types of sensors and our firmware calculates x/y/z coordinates from the reported distances and so has to choose the correct pitch matrix.Thx Peter

Hi All,I see two order codes for the VL53L5CX: VL53L5CXV0GC/1 (with liner) VL53L5CXV9GC/1 (without liner) The datasheet says the liner must be removed before mounting the cover glass, but it’s not clear when the liner version is required.Could anyone of you clarify the purpose of the liner and when to choose the with liner version instead of without liner for standard PCB assembly? Hi,We are trying to mount the VL537CX ToF(Pololu) sensor on roof of a car and map a certain area of the cabin. The sensor is pointed downwards.But we are observing the a pattern flashing (appearing for a single frame of ToF data) at an interval varying from 0.2 to 5 seconds. The pattern is not constant, there will be slight changes each time.There are textured hard plastic surfaces (black color & white color) in the locations corresponding to  the zones where flashing occurs. The windshield is close to the sensor, but is out of its FoV.­­­­­­What could be the reason for this behavior? What can be done to avoid this flashing behavior?Attached the images of normal zone values and zone values during flashing for reference.

Hello,I have already use VL53L0X sensor provided by AZ-Delivery.My main problem is that I2C address can be changed but NOT permanently.I am looking to "Adafruit VL53L4CX Time of Flight Sensor". But I don't want to discover the same problem, that is I2C address can not be change permanently. Does the base-component VL53L4CX have the same "disability" ?Is there a TOF component allowing to set and fix this important behavior ?Best regards.

A new sensor has been recently launched on st.com, embedded in existing pressure and iNemo sensors: an electrostatic sensor that can be used for human presence and motion detection, touch detection, and user interface (UI) applicationsQvar stands for electric charge (= Q) variation (= var). It is an electrical potential sensing channel able to measure the quasi-electrostatic potential changes. ILPS22QS and LSM6DSV16X sensors allow to connect an analog input and convert it to a digital signal for embedded processing. In addition, the embedded Qvar channel can be enabled for sensing in applications such as water leakage detection, tap, double tap, long press, and L/R - R/L swipe.

Does the ambient value affect the distance measurements in the VL53L8CX, or are both parameters independent of each other?
